Garage Basics is an American online store specializing in garage storage and organization. The Ulti-MATE page showcases the Ulti-MATE Garage 2.0 cabinet line, which spans more than ten product pages. The collection includes base, wall-mounted, and tall cabinets, plus countertops, shelves, and mounting accessories.
The series is presented as award-winning, and one of the product listings even features the "Best Buy" distinction from Consumer Digest. The cabinets have a rounded, workshop-style profile and can be combined as needed. The system is modular, much like LEGO bricks: you start with a few modules and add more later.
What actually fits in an Ulti-MATE garage?
The base cabinets have four drawers on full-extension ball-bearing slides. The drawer slides all the way out, so that screwdriver you dropped in the back won't get lost there. The units are 21 inches deep (about 53 cm) and can be placed on the floor or mounted on the wall. For wall mounting, the kits include a mounting rail, and the website recommends hiring a professional to ensure a secure installation.
The tall two-door cabinets are 82 inches (nearly 2.1 m) tall and 35.5 inches wide, or nearly 90 cm. Their shelves are one inch thick and have a capacity of 200 lb (about 90 kg) each. A cable management system provides easy access to the outlets behind the cabinet—a handy feature for chargers and cordless tools.
Wall-mounted cabinets are shallower, at 14 inches (about 35 cm), and leave space above the countertop. A separate wall-mounting kit is available for the tall cabinets. The collection also includes 36-inch shelving kits, sold as a set, and mounting brackets.
If you'd rather not do the math yourself, you can start with a pre-assembled set, ranging from 3 to 14 pieces. The nine-piece kit, for example, includes three base cabinets, two tall cabinets, three wall cabinets, and a countertop. Once assembled, it is about 3.6 meters wide and nearly 2.1 meters tall.
What are they made of?
The cabinet bodies are made of 3/4-inch (about 19 mm) MDF and particleboard, covered with textured PVC laminate. The door and drawer fronts are made of MDF with a glossy, metallic PVC laminate. The panels comply with CARB regulations, the California standard for formaldehyde emissions from wood-based panels.
The doors feature adjustable, nearly silent soft-close hinges and locks. The door pulls itself closed the last few centimeters, just like modern kitchen drawers. The handles are made of brushed chrome, 3/4 inch thick, and easy to grip even while wearing work gloves. The cabinets stand on 6-inch (about 15 cm) adjustable aluminum legs, which are useful on a garage floor that's rarely perfectly level.
The color palette is extensive: Starfire White, Graphite Gray, Midnight Black, Ruby Red, and Stardust Silver—all metallic finishes. The filters on the page also show two-tone combinations with a gray frame. Ruby Red seems designed for those who already have a car to match in their garage.
Bamboo or grooved countertop?
The countertop is the choice that most dramatically changes the look of the entire unit. The bamboo version is described as solid and eco-friendly. The gray MDF countertop has grooves on the surface, is recessed between the cabinets, and supports 300 lb (about 136 kg). Some kits come without a worktop, for those who already have a workbench.
In my opinion, the worktop says the most about how you use your garage. Bamboo resembles a kitchen countertop and suits a garage that doubles as a hobby room. The grooved tabletop is clearly geared toward a workshop, where you can drop a wrench on it without a second thought.
How do you find the right piece?
The page has filters by product type, color, material, tabletop type, width, depth, height, and availability. Results can be sorted by popularity, alphabetically, or by date, and can be viewed as a grid or a list. A comparison tool lets you view up to three products side by side. Each product displays its availability, and a separate filter also shows out-of-stock items.
As a reviewer, I'd use the comparison tool just like when choosing a phone: you place the product details side by side and immediately see how they differ. The product details provide the dimensions of each piece in the kit, the SKU, and the UPC code. With this information, you can measure your wall with a tape measure before ordering.
Shipping, Warranty, and Support
Items in the collection are in stock and typically ship within 1 to 5 business days. Delivery is handled by a freight carrier, curbside, with a hydraulic platform for unloading. The cabinets come unassembled, and the manufacturer offers a 10-year limited warranty on parts.
The contact page lists a dedicated support phone number, an email address, and business hours for weekdays and weekends. The footer links to the delivery, return, and sales policies, a newsletter, and accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Reddit. Customer reviews are collected through Shopper Approved.
