Married over 30 years ago, Tony and Maureen Wheeler decided to cross Europe and Asia overland and continue to Australia. On a tight budget, it took them many months and ended up flat broke at the end. However, the adventurous trip gave birth to Lonely Planet in the shape of its first travel guide, which gained immense popularity. As of 2012, Lonely Planet has over a 100 million travel guides in many languages. The website offers very accurate and detailed information specific to each continent which is then broken down to regions, countries, states and cities.
