Sign up to the right to get a free Gi Patch and sticker!!! Legalize MMA in WV is dedicated to unifying the MMA comunity to achieve one common goal, for Mixed Martial arts to be legalized in West Virginia. Many West Virginians are unaware that MMA Competitions are even illegal in the mountain state. West Virginia remains one of the only states that has not regulated and legalized mixed martial arts competition.

It is our belief that we the people can achieve our goal with organized mailing campaigns , email campaigns and by making our pressense known. We are giving away a FREE "Legalize MMA in WV" bumpersticker for you you to show your support.

We are going to have some fun with this too! We are going to have a photo contest and give away a cash prize. You submit a photo proudly displaying your "Legalize MMA in WV" bumpersticker and the public votes and you could win $$$

With MMA at an all time high and our economy at such a low it would be a perfect time for West Virginia to sanction the sport. It is reported that in 2007 the UFC set an all-time attendance record for a UFC event and grossed $160,000 for the state of Ohio, and that total was greater than all revenues reported by the Athletic Commission the entire previous year. Ohio made $450,291.53 between July 2008 and June 2009.

The West Virginia Athletic Commission has banned the sport by regulating the length of a round and weight of gloves in combat sports. Chapter 29, Article 5-A of W. Va. state code says:

"No boxing or sparring match or exhibition shall be more than 15 rounds of three minutes each in length with intermission of one minute each between rounds; and the contestants shall wear, during such contests, gloves weighing at least 10 ounces."

MMA gloves are four to six ounces and rounds are five minutes.

The Chairman of the West Virginia State Athletic Commission doesn't consider MMA a sport at all. with a little work you can find many statements that the Chairman has made.
