Recession Proof Your Income

Recession Proof Your Income: Become an Article Writer

Have you ever wondered if you had what it takes to write and make money online? I used to, but now I know for sure that I do! A good way to begin making money online, and to recession proof your income, is by writing web content. The easiest form of web content to write is articles. It's amazing how much some clients will pay for a well-written 500 word article, I've personally made as much as $45 per article.

So, I'll bet you're wondering how you can get some of this action, and begin learning how to recession proof your income, right? It's actually not difficult at all. One of the techniques I use for finding clients for my articles is to do a special search on Google, or Yahoo. It's very important to put just the right search criteria into your search to find the best and most clients. My favorite search criteria is to put in "write for us"+paid and then hit the button. What this does is tells Google or Yahoo that you are looking only for clients that actually pay you to write for them.

There are hundreds of clients out there that will ask you to write for free, or for peanuts and I always tell beginners that it's not a good idea to take these jobs because you can wind up with a lot of work and very little pay which can spell burn out quickly.

There's absolutely no reason that you should have to accept anything less than a flat rate of $10 per 500 word article, even if you are new to freelance writing. This is the reason that when you're doing a search for jobs that you don't want to just plug in write for us for example, because you'll get all the unpaid and low paying websites.

Once you have found some websites that look good, you can apply to write for them. Some even allow you to write about what you want to, and to write when you want to, as well as, start writing and submitting right away! Article writing can be one of the best ways to help recession proof your income in a slow economy.

Next make a list of topics you know well and begin thinking of short 500 word articles you can write around these topics, then start writing articles. You will be surprised at how much you actually do know about certain topics once you begin writing. If for some reason, you feel as though you aren't proficient enough on the topics you want to write about, you can do research online very easily.

Just be sure that you don't copy and paste anything from online sources to your article, putting things in your own words is very important. You don't want to get accused of plagiarism, as this can ruin your writing career before it gets started. Read over your work at least twice before submitting.

I always read my articles out loud to myself as this helps me to see if I'm writing like I would speak which is important if you want to engage readers. Once you've read over your completed article, then submit your article for payment. While clients do have the option to refuse an article, if the article is well-written, most will not. You can expect to receive a response and either an offer, or an e-mail saying the article was accepted within a week in most cases.

Finally be aware that clients will be on different pay schedules. Some will pay weekly, some monthly depending on who they are. Two of my top clients pay weekly but I also have some that pay monthly so it's important to keep this in mind so that you can schedule your life accordingly. Good Luck!
